Various Cabled Items.

FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, Brisbane, March 22. Native* report that the remains of a large ship drifted ashore at Yorke Peninsula, 50 mile* south of Batavia river. The beach is strewn with wreckage, including stanchions, a deck house, and large quantities of sago and flour. The wreckage bear* evidence of not having been long in the water. Brisbane, Match 23. It is not expected that the Government steamer wiil return until Sunday from the scene of the wreck near Batavia river, York Peninsula. The presence of sago amongst the wreckage suggests that the vessel was a trader to the East Indies. The natives, report that there were no signs of bodies or survivors. It is thought that the ship may have struck a reef in deep water, and that survivors may be stranded on an island. STRENUOUS WILLIAM AGAIN. Berlin, March 23. At a banquet at Bremen, in connection with the unveiling of a monument of Emperor Frederick, the Kaiser made a remarkable speech in which he declared that he was resolved, as far as he was personally concerned, that the German bayonets and guns would remain idle but always sharp and in a fit condition to prevent outsiders from disturbing the Germans. Personally he did not aspire to be a barren sovereign of the world by'conquest. The only world sovereignty a Hohenzollern desired was founded on the mutual confidence of those nations which were striving for the same goals, He declared that every new German battleship was another pledge of peace. He described the Germans as the salt of the earth.
