Foxton Debating Society.

At a meeting of the society last evening, in Mr R. Moore’s rooms, there, were about a dozen members present. Some ordinary business was dealt with including an election of president and vice-president, Messrs W. S. Stewart and R. Moors being voted to the respective positions. The first debate of the session, on the subject “ Should capital punishment be abolished ? ” was then opened, the speakers for the affirmative being Bro. Fox, (leader) and Messrs Frankland, Hunter, and Jenks. These were opposed by Messrs Moore, (leader) Barnard, Hutchison, and Morgan, and , a subsequent vote showed that mens' hers generally favoured the conten« tinns for continuing the present system cf punishment for the capital offence.
