CHAMPION ATHLETES AT CHRISTCHURCH, Christchurch, Saturday. The Championship Athletic Meeting was continued in good weather, and before a large attendance. There was great excitement when Shrubb fell a victim to the Dunedinite, Burk, in the mile run, who cut the distance out in 4111111 27 2-5 sec—a New Zealand record. Shrubb easily won the four mile run hder in the day. Duffey, the American, won both the 100 and 50 Yards events. Other winners High Jnmp.—M. Roseingrave, Canterbury, 1. Five Mile Bicycle.—W. Reynolds, Auckland, 1. Throwing i6lb Hammer.—S. Baird, Canterbury, 1. Pole Jump.—o. McLachlan, Otago, 1. Half Mile. —G. Wheatley, Victoria, 1. Mile Walk.—P. Stubberfield, Canterbury, 1. 230 Yards.—F. Drake, Canterbury, 1440 Pards Hurdles.—T. Craig, Wellington 1. 120 Yards Hurdles. —F. Drake, Canterbury, 1. 440 Yards Flat.—B, Webb, Canterbury, 1. The standards were seldom broken, and the rnnning of the New Zealanders, with trifling exceptions, was not out of the ordinary. The championship shield goes to Canterbury with 72 points, Wellington being second with 52, Otago third with 26, and Auckland last with a solitary 1.
