Moutoa Notes.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Montoa has presented a very busy appearance lately. The farmers, taking advantage of the spell of fine weather, have been gathering in their crops of hay, oats, barley, etc. Cyclists will be in trouble for a month or more as the roads out here are being patched up with metal from Shannon. Fortunately, tiowever, it ifd-cs but a month or two to set almost like concrete', more than can be Wd for the metal on the foxton portion Of the main road. This hasten down for nearly three winters, and seems as far Off setting as ever. The line Spill of weather ha? nad the effect of considerably diminishing the water in the river ; so rtiilcb so that one of the river steamers conveying, flax has been stack on a sandbank for several days. Latest news concerning them is that they aie “ praving ” for rain but it won 1 conic. Last night a lecture on Prohibition was given by Mr Hawkins, M.H.R. for Pahiatua. It was only to be expected that proceedings would be interesting, especially as Shannon district at last election helped considerably towards keeping Prohibition out of the electorate.
