A REPLY TO STILL “ DISGUSTED.”

IPO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATO HERALD. Sir,—l notice that the person under the above name, has condescended to reply to my letter appearing in your issue of the 9th inst., and further, I note, that he still shields himself anonymously. Further, that he has carefully omitted to reply to the refutations contained in my letter, viz., Sunday being the boisterous day of the week, the rich persons giving dinners, etc. I presume bo must now admit he was in error when he so rashly launched out these charges. Now I purpose replying to the earlier portion of his letter, the rest of his arguments being of a nature which I would recommend anyone if suffering from insomnia to read over once or perhaps twice, and it would act as a very powerful soporific. Nov/ as to the twitting insinuation that if I was as übiquitous as the devil on to two sticks, etc., I would not still be omnipresent. Ido not pretend to aspire to such a state, hut “ Disgusted ” seems to be endowed with a gift as being “ omniscient." In fact he is not like the great Mr Weller, of Pickwick fame, who was not endowed with gas magnifying miscrospiclens which might enable him to see through a flight of stairs and a deal door. What “ Disgusted ” has seen has been through his limited vision, and he has magnified »A accordingly. Judging from his remarks on Prohibition, he seems to me one of that class who like to run with the hare and at the same time with the hounds. Now, “ Disgusted,” let me inform you that I am not a young man. I have lived in New .Zealand for a considerable number of years (possibly more than your present and have seen a deal of experi- I mental legislation which has in several instances considerably benefitted its inhabitants. Consequently, there is no necessity at present to go to Norway (I think “ Disgusted ” reveals his identity by this allusion) for any reform as to liquor laws. In conclusion, Disgusted,” do leave off the pernicious habit some persons will indulge in ot crying “ stinking fish." Never abuse the bridge that carries you safely over and, lastly, remember the well-known fable—and a very true one—of the bundle of sticks, viz. ; “ United we stand, separated we fall.” Your letters in their present condition do not do your cause any good.—l am, etc., Foxton Resident.
