Mr Alfred Mistowsky has been ap» pointed Trinity College examiner for New Zealand. General Booth left London for Australia on Thursday, and is due in Wellington on April 28thF. W. Flowerday, an old resident of the district and a retired dealer, died suddenly at Stoke on Monday. _ Mr John Stevens is on a visit to Foxton for a day or two, renewing acquaintance with many old frieds. The local stationmaeter, Mr Rodie, is now enjoying his annual holiday, his place being taken by Mr Andrews, relieving officer. Mr F. McGuire, who was defeated by Mr Major at the last election, has decided to contest the Hawera seat at the general election. Earl Cawdor has been appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. His consummate business capacity is generally recognised. The “ Daily Chronicle,” amongst other newspapers, is congratulating the Government on his appointment. There died in Melbourne the other day from consumption the eldest daughter of Mr Martyn Hagan, who was professionally known as Miss Marie Woodforde. The deceased young lady was well-known throughout New Zealand, having toured frequently with Mr Martyn Hagan and his wife (Miss Lucy Fraser), with whom sincere sympathy will be felt.
