Manohurian Campaign.
KHrOPATRIN SUFFERS ANOTHER DEFEAT. BRILLIANT STRATEGY. London, March 6. The Japanese advanced left captured the hills four miles south of Mukden. The Russians* movement lack coordination and co-operation. Reuter’s Mukden correspondent says the turning of the Ru ssian right, at a complete right angle, hinging on Lin* shinpu, is considered to be the most remarkable strategic movement of the war. The Japanses infantry brilliantly crossed the Sha-ho on Thursday night, winning a front two miles across by crawling up bare stony hills like leeches. Two Japanese squadrons area hundred miles south-east of Hong-Kong, steaming rapidly. The Czar’s declaration that the Russians’ power must be predominant in the Pacific ocean has caused amazement in Russia and abroad. The Russians at Mukden state that some fighting occurred a few miles north-east of Chantan after the right flank was ordered to withdraw, and they claim to have captured some machine guns and some of General Nogi’s Port Arthur soldiers ; also to have destroyed the entire Japanese regiments at Chantan with shrapnel and to have burned the forage and the villages north of the Hun bo. They admit their losses were extensive.
