UTILISING NATURE’S GIFTS.

A movement initiated by the president of the Palmerston North Chamber i f Commerce, Mr J. Nash, should commend itself to and receive the hearty co-operation of the residents of Foxton and district. This is a proposal to supply a deficiency that has long been apparent to people of the Chicago of New Zealand and the country around it —i.e., the lack of an easily accessible ;ea-side holiday resort. At the Manawatu Heads there is an ideal spot, now much used by people with means, but this is practically inaccessible to huntreds of people who would gladlv avail themselves of the opportunity ot spending a few days there occasionally if facilities were at hand to reach it and accommodation procurable on arrival. We trust that the proposal now on foot to ex! end the railway by a light line from Foxton to the heads will be taken up with vigour and proseluted to a successful end. The local ■epresenfatives at the meeting to be held next month should leave no s'one mtnrned in aiding to secure the Government’s favourable consideration ol the proposal, and that at the earliest date possible. There are no engineering diffien ties to be surmounted, and, as is well, known, the aresent administrative head of the colony’s railways is quick to grasp the uirentuilfies of any scheme for revenue production, concerning which there should he little- doubt in the present instance. We trust that after he meeting of delegates next month some definite and workable plan of action will have been outlined that will foreshadow the near approach of the lays when the people of the inland districts will have this fine holiday spot brought within easy reach of them. The benefits accruing to Foxton should iced no elaboration ; they should be apparent to all, and form an additional incentive to local support of the Palmerston proposal.
