The “Kelmanns.”
TO-MORROW EVENING’S PERFORMANCE. The appearance of “ Kellmann, the Magician ’’ at the Foxton Public Hall to-morrow evening should induce a large attendance, as , his wonderful performance has earned him much favour in other places. As a conjurer Kellmann is said to equal any- who have appeared on the colonial stage, and this is no mean praise to earn. A southern paper, referring to the sleight of hand wizard said that 4** the most prominent item was the wonder* ful performance of Kellmann, the magician. Ribbons and handkerchiefs were produced, torn to shreds, and burnt, but still never failed to reappear in unexpected places and unharmed. Kellmaun’s work with balls was first-class, while he seemed to make solid rings do all sorts of wonders; get into chains, separate, and generally act as he desired. His concluding item, however, astonished the audience very considerably. Clothing himself in black gloves, an oilskin coat, and a black hood, he was handcuffed by a policeman, who apparently surrounded him with a screen* which he threw flat on the stage, and in the falling Kellmann disappeared from the enfolding screen, and the policeman, partly unrobed, turned out to be no other than Kellmann himself. The performance seemed marvellous, but there it was, and the audience rapturously applauded the clevcg magician,”
