Rifle Shooting.
TRENTHAM MEETING OPENED. Shooting on the opening day on Thursday was delayed hy rain, but when a start was made good work was done. There was practically no wind and the light was perfect. “ Possibles ” were secured by Sergeant Ivws, Hampden; .Mar-hall, Karori; LTntenant White, Patea ; Contain Barltrop, Fcilding; Sergeant Purnell, Wanganui ; ami Corpora) Papps, Nelson.
In the afternoon at the 500 vnrds range, the men got on to (he bulls-cyc right away ami there wore no lower than twelve “ p nsiblcs,” contrilmb d by Sergeant Sami ford, Chrislchnrdt ; Flaherty, Grevmontli ; Irvine, Wairoa M.R. ; Smaili, Kaitangata ; McKuighl. Manioto ; Ciiflon, Ilnrmmia M.K. ; Hyde, Opaki ; Uarltrop, Feiiding; Phillips, Auckland ; Storkcy, Ranlurly Rifles; McDonald, Wellington; and Fraser, Kaitangata. The Auckland Match, 200, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each, was concluded on Friday, the principal prizes takers being:—H. Hawthorne (Karori), £5, go : F. Shaw (Ohinomuri), 99, and (thing (Nelson), gS, ('4 each : Carly (d’atea) 98, Harltrop (Manchester Uilles), 98, £$ each ; Drummond (Da.nnevirkc), 97, So; cl: (Pet2ne), 97, Marshall (Karon), g;. Lieutenant Okey Taranaki), g(>, and Thomas (Pefnncl, 96, each. Colonel Collins, in iho course oi Ids opening address, said it was intended to strictly forbid the use of “ props ” in shooting after the present meeting. Thfe question of Fending Home for 510 Ralston shutter targets is under c aisideration by Urn < iovorninent. I here targets are imperishable, and not aflected by weather as the present ones are.
