THE aWAHOU CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING, The annual meeting of the above club, held at the M anawatu Hotel on Thursday night, was largely attended by members. Mr J. Frew occupied the chair, and in brief explained that the main object of the meeting was to consider the proposal to join the Manawalu Rugby Union. Mr E. G. Sutherland was in attendance and explained the necessary steps to be taken. Ho read correspondence from Mr C. Warden (a Manawatu Rugby Union official) on (he subject, who stated that (he Manawatn l>,.dv would probably receive the 01oposhiou with favour. —.Many nuoslhn.-. on the matter of affiliation wen; saii.-factoiily answered by Mr Sutherland, who was given a vote of (hanks for information supplied. —lt was finally decided that the Awahou Club lake the initiative and endeavour to form (he dillcn nt Foxton and diMrict football clubs into a section of the Manawatn Union. Also that these clubs play for 'he junior championship, it being considered their play was not up to (he Senior standard. —The secretary was instructed to write to the other clubs interested and call their delegates together as soon as possible to go Icily into the matter. —Messrs Sutherland and F. Robinson were appointed to act on behalf of the Awahou Club.
The secretary reported a balance in hand of 13s 6d after last year's operadons.
Considerable discussion took place as to the subscription tee, .which was eventually fixed at 23 6J. Votes of thanks were passed to all retiring officials for support, alter which the election of officers for the emunug year resulted as follows President, G v A. Simpson, Esq., (Mayor); vicepresidents, Messrs G. Gray, G. Colev, O. Robinson, G. Stiles, T. Stewart, (). Austin, M. I’crrcau, j. T. Level!, and A. Shad bolt; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. ‘ J ilk'll ; general committee, Messrs S. Wright, W. Coley, j. Lyne, F. Whibley, kinder, and the secretary, ex officio.
The election of captain, vice-captain, and match committee was held over. It was mentioned that a local enthusiast intended presenting the club with a banner.
The idea of holding a fancy dress football match to open the season was mooted, and steps in that direction will be taken at next meeting. A vote of thanks to the chair ami to Mr Levelt for the. use of the room concluded the meeting. The Old Boys’ Chib’s annual meeting is fixed for Tuesday night. The annual meeting of the Wanderer Club is called for Friday evening next.
