Foxton Literary and Debating Society.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above Society was held in Mr Moore’s office on Tuesday evening to consider cricket matters, and also to arrange for-the coming session of the Society. There was a good attendance oi members, the Rev. H, F. Wilson being voted to the chair.
Cricketing matters were then dealt with, some discussion arising as to the advisability of procuring a new bat for the club. A motion, put by Mr E. Wanklyn and seconded by Mr Moore, was carried to the effect that the matter be left in the hands ot the Captain, Vice-captain and Secretary.
Mr W. Barnard was also thanked lor the trouble he had taken in looking after the cricket materials during the season.
Arrangements for the coming session were then proceeded witi. The following motions were put to the meeting and carried: — Proposed by Mr Fyte, seconded by Mr Wanklyn, that a small magazine be published in connection with the Society, for distribution among the members and the public, it being calculated to stimulate greater interest in the work of the session.
Proposed by Mr Fyfe, seconded by Mr Dunn, that the magazine be typewritten.
Proposed by Mr Barnard, seconded by Mr Fyfe, that further arrangements regarding the magazine be left in the hands of the Committee.
Proposed by Mr Moore, seconded by Mr Hutchison, that a committee, consisting of Messrs Barnard and Harris, and the Secretary, be elected for the coming year.
Proposed by Mr Barnard, seconded by Mr Fyfe, that the first meeting of the Society be held on the evening of the 6th March, in Mr Moore’s office. Proposed by Mr Barnard, seconded Mr Moore, that the Society meet every fortnight instead of every week as before.
Proposed by Rev. Wilson, seconded by Mr Hutchison, that the subscription be fixed at as 6d.
Proposed by Rev. Wilson, seconded by Mr Hutchison, that a constitution, consisting of rules, etc., be drawn up for the Society.
Messrs Hill, Polsen, G. Honore, T, Betty, and Hussey were elected members of the Society, and Mr L, Jenks was elected secretary and treasurer for the coming session. The meeting then closed with the usual vote of thanks to the chair, and to Mr Moore for the use oi the room,
