The Steele-Payne Bellringers
“ Good wine needs no bush,’’ and the Steele-Payne bellringers, who make their re-appearance at the Public Hall, Foxton, on Monday next, are known to Foxton people as good wine. The company now are more versatile than ever, having added more instruments to their programme. They now introduce coon songs, cake walks, musical sketches, etc., and enjoy the reputation of being “ brighter and better than ever.” In addition to the old favourites, Misses Lizzie and Maud Payne and Mr Ralph Steele, two new aspirants for public favour are Miss Rena Fisher, mezzo soprano t and pianiste, and Mr T. Elston, baritone and elocutionist, both of whom are sure to become firm favourites; and last, but by no means least, the reappearance of Master Claude Steele, who can be best described as a pocket edition of his humourous father. He is only eleven years old, and has already gained the medal at the South Street Competitions, Ballarat, for comic singing and humourous recitals. The prices of admission being popular, a good attendance should be recorded, as a good entertainment is promised.
