Memorial Service.
On Sunday evening last a bined memorial service in with the death of Mrs George Nye, " senior, was held in* the Methodist Church. The Presbyterian and Primitive Methodist Congregations having joined hands for the occasion. There was n large congregation, the church being filled in every part. Rev, W. Harris conducted the service and was assisted by Mr W. R. Hutchison who read the lessons and preached from from Rev. 14th chap., 13th verse : “ Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.” Both ministers referred to the beautiful Christian character and bright kindly disposition of one who has lived in Foxton for nearly half a century. While it is true that Mrs Nye was little known in public life, her influence was always exerted for good in the peaceful happy life of the home and in intercourse with friends and neighbours. Her quaint, cheery words will long be remembered by those who were privileged to know her. All present at the service were urged by God’s grace to, strive to follow in the footsteps of those “who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Suitable hymns were sung, among, them being “ Rock of Ages,” a favorite hymn'of this departed mother in Israel. The choir sang as an anthem daring the service «The Christian’s Good Night.” A word of praise is due to the ladies who so tastefully and suitably arranged for the draping of the pulpit and for the white flowers on the organ. . r ~ Apart from the expression, of esteem for the late Mrs Nye. and of sympathy with the bereaved relatives, this combined service has shown in a striking manner the very real sympathy and unity existing between two Evangelist Churches in this town.
