Destructive Fire In Feilding.
INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. At one o'clock on Sunday fire broke out in the rear of a bootshop owned by Mr T. Svendsen, spreading to the adjoining shops occupied by Clem p ntson (storekeeper) and Milson and Coles’, Dresden piano warehouse. When discovered the fire had a good hold, making it impossible to save the stock in any of the shops, Mr Clementson only saving a few personal eftects. , The southerly wind which was blowing put the Manchester boardinghouse in danger, but owing to the brick wall at the end of the burning block and an intervening vacant section this building was saved. The Fire Brigade were hampered by the fact that the hose had been pampered with, being choked with pieces of leather. All the circumstances point to incendiarism. The buildings were all owned by Mr Svendsen, and were not insured. His stock and also that of Mr Clementson, was uninsured. The total loss is estimated at £1,900. The Dresden Co. s pianos and organs are estimated to have been worth £3OO, and it is presumed they were covered by insurance in Wellington?
