A RUSSIAN L'HN OF FIFTYTHREE The newspaper Echo do Paris’ Si. Petersburg correspondent says that Russia has arranged with the German and Dutch banks for a loan of fifty-three million sterling, whereof forty-five million will be issued in Berlin, and tbs rest in Amsterdam. The bulk of the loan remains in Germany as a guarantee for orders for war ships. The newspaper Le Temps says Russia’s reply to Colonel Hay is that it is impossible for the Hague Conference to re-asseniMe during the war. A JAPANESE LOAN. A Japanese loan has been issued at 90£, with 2| per cent discount for full payment on allotment. This, with other conditions, will yield investors nearly eight per cent. The scrip is quoted at from 2 to 2|d per cent premium. Vice-Admiral Kuene, who belongs to the reserve, in a lecture > alLuebeck, said Germany was interested in the arrival of the Baltic fleet m the Far East, as the present war would decide Germany’s future at Kiaochau. THE RUSSIAN WOUNDED. There are eighty-six thousand wounded in terribly over-crowded hospitals between Baikal and Mukden. It is expected that half will return to the ranks withirf two months. ALBXIEFF AND KUROPAtKIN. THE ALLEGED QUARRELS DENIED. ■ Admiral Alexiefif (late Russian Viceroy in the Far East), bn feeing interviewed, said the reported aeriona dissensions between Genaral Kuropatkin and himself were lies. ■ He never interfered with General Karopatkin’s plans. General Kuropatkiil bad prepared the proclamation prior to the last battle. He (Admiral \lexiefij scarcely approved of it. If Japan was victorious she would organise China sufficiently to destroy European influence in the Far East.
