Foxton Borough Council.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held' at the Borough Offices last evening r tif"confirm a Special Order of the Council declaring certain.posts to.be noxious weeds within the Borough. There was little discussion on the subject, when Or Gower proposed, and Cr Stiles seconded, That in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it on behalf of “ The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” that the following be declared noxious weeds within the Borough—broome, gorse, lupin and ragwort. Carried, From Messrs Moore, Cdramerfield & Spring, reia crossing in 'Main Street. ‘ The letter Obf’that prior to the fire; which destroyed Main Street shops , a erogspighad .agisted, but that since it had, not 'been replaced.— Proposed by Or * Speirs, seconded by Or Symons, That permission he granted to Messrs Cummerfield, Spring and? Prom District Clerk Palmerston Hospital Board, re representative of Council attending the election.— After discussion, in which the election, so far as Foxton was concerned, was alluded to as a farce, Cr Baker nroposed, and Or Gower seconded, That His Worship the Mayor be appointed as representative to represent Foxton, on 28rd inst., at North Hospital and Charitable Aur

A letter was received from the District Engineer re metal cost;,and dealt with accordingly. \ The Manawata County . Goiinoil wrote in answer to Foxton Council's letter re Beach road. The Manawatu Council contended it was clear this was a case contemplated* by section 8 of the “ Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1900,” and also section 218 of the “ Mumicipal Corooration Act, 1900.”—This Tetter brought forth strong opposition from Councillors, who- rightly contended that the beach.road was used more by Palmerstonians and members of their own County than Foxton residents; The main cost of the upkeep of the road should be borne by the Manawatu County. - Members generally spoke of the bad state of theroad at present.—Proposed by Cr. Speirs, seconded by Cr Coley, - That the Town t"lerk write to the Manawatu County Council drawing their attention to a mistake in reply to our letter, namely, that the largest portion of the traffic is from the Foxton Borough by the yatepayera thereof ; tbib is entirely a mistake, as the road is most used by visitors and your own ratepayers?—Carried. . ; . REPORTS. . , » The Overseer reported at length on the wqrks of the Bqroqglj. The Inspector of JSTuisances reoorted that apart from some back yards in , Main street being in an offensive state, the Borough was in a clean condition. The Borough Ranger reported having impounded 23 cows and four horses, whilst three cows bad been impounded by settlers. The- reports were Re the Ranger, the following resolution was carried, proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, " That the Ranger be requested.!© attend to his duties properly or he will be dispensed with. ■ general. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Town Clerk be instructed to advertise for tenders for the following services; Carting, ranging, lamp-lighting, and Dog Registration for the year 1905, tenders to be in by next monthly meeting.—Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded d| by Cr Baker, That daymen be instructed to put a crossing over the gutter in Main street, where the old one was destroyed by fire in Main street,—Carried, TENDERS. Three tenders were received for the lease of Reserve No. 488, that of Mrs Ahearn at X2 10s per annum being accepted.

“GARDEN PESTS BILE.’’ Cr Baker drew attention to the fact that the above Bill had been ia force some time, and referred to the neglect of Foxton orchardisfcs in not keeping their fruit gaidens free from pests. After a little persuasion* he convinced the meeting sufficiently to carry the following resolution, That a copy of “ The Orchards and Garden Pests Bill ” be obtained. ACCOUNTS Several accounts were passed for payment, and after other minoi* business was transacted, the meeting terminated.
