Life Not Worth Living.

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 30. John William Jones, 82 years of age, committed suicide yesterday by shooting himself through the head. He was a single man, residing with his parents in Opawa, and since his return with the contingenters from South Africa two years ago had done no work. He left home yesterday morning about nine, and did not return, though he had arranged to igo to Dunedin by express at eleven. Search was made, and the body was found by two brothers later in the day. Deceased left letters announcing his intention of committing suicide. He was well known here some years ago as champion cyclist. THAMES, Oct. 80. John Gilpin, a young man attempting to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge over a gully, was injured internally. He was to the hospital, and is expected to recover.
