Last Wednesday’s Gale.

Compared with Kumeroa, Foxton residents fared well regarding the hailstorm of Wednesday last. The Woodville Examiner of last Friday aays lit; particularly violent thunderstorm occurred in this district on Wednesday. It missed the town, though the roll of the thunder and the flashes of lightning could be ’ij' ljiard and seen in the direction of Kumeroa. At the latter place the full severity of the storm was felt. Chain and forked lightning flashed with appalling rapidity, and the crash of the thunder was deafening. Rain and hailstones descended in a deluge. Many people consider that a waterspout burst. The creek at Mr Peart’s place rose 12 feet in half an hour, the water rushing down in a regular wall* and flooding a large portion of bis country. Between Mr P. H. Lynch’s and the creamery four telegraph poles s Were’struck by lightning. One was Cyt clean off about two feet from the * trip, and the others looked as though tjiey4?ad been split down by an axe. ' ‘ storm caused considerable discomfort at Messrs Williams and Keltfe's' sale. Several veracious witnesses tell us that the hailstones were so large that they had to hang on to the fences to prevent themlelyes being flattened out.
