Auckland Hospital Inquiry.
After the charges had been submitted to the Hospital Commission to-day, the examination of witnesses in support of Dr Neil’s charge against Dr Collins was commenced. The principal witness was Dr Neil, and a great deal of his evidence was devoted to the case of the late Mallis White, who was operated on in the Hospital in May last, and whose case was so much in prominence in connection with the proceedings at the meetings of the Hospital Board in August, when Dr Neil was first suspended, and afterwards dismissed from his position on the honorary medical staff. _ Dr Neil was also examined in support of the other charges against Dr Collins. His cross-examination will take place to morrow. During the inquiry Dr McGregor, Inspector-General of Hospitals, who appeared on behalf of his Department, commenced to examine witnesses, but Judge Ward informed him that this could not be allowed. Dr McGregor said the Minister instructed him to be present, but Judge Ward replied that the Department had practically delegated all its power in the matter to the Commission. Dr McGregor said he would accept the ruling of the Commission.
