RUSSIAN WARSHIPS NEAR THURSDAY ISLAND. . The Government Resident, at Thursday Island telegraphs that two Russian warships were seen about 60 miles north-west of Thursday Island last week. One grounded on a shoal and was towed off by the other. The Russian Consul at Sydney discredits the statement that Russian cruisers are at Thursday Island. The Japanese Consul has had no advices about the likelihood of Russian cruisers being in the vicinity.
