DIX’S ENTERTAINERS. There was a fairly large and appreciative audience at the Public Hall last night to witness the performance given by Dix’s Entertainers. That the various “ turns ” contained merit goes without saying, as the applause which greeted each item last evening folly demonstrated. Miss Jennie Johnston opened the show with a beautifully played pianoforte selection. Then the following enjoyable items were gone through Miss Dora Taylor gave a good exhibition of tip-toe dancing. This young lady also pleased her listeners with serio-comic items. Mr George Shaw contributed a tenor solo to effect. The Gothams came up to reputation, their mimicry of the banjo being especially good. There is plenty of mirth in their act. The American ventriloquist, Mr Geo. Dickie, gave a good exhibition of his ventriloquial powers. With his troupe of funny folk and some really good “ local hits” his audience were kept in a simmer of laughter. Mr Samuel Gale had to respond to an encore for his descriptive rendering of “ That is a Woman’s Way.” Sam Rowley received a double encore for his Coon song and stories. Mr Leslie Forrest, the double-voiced vocalist, charmed his audience with his singing, especially whilst imitating a soprano —almost a perfect voice. The Wheelers gave a very clever trick bicycle act, which received tremendous applause. “ Imagination.” a side-splitting farce, sent everybody home in a good trame of mind.
