LONDON, Sept. 14. Earl and Countess Roberts are at present on a visit to* Capetown, where they met with an enthusiastic reception. HOBART, Sept. 14. Mr T. Wallen, of the cable station, Doubtless Bay, New Zealand, won the first prize of £6OOO in Tattersail’s sweep on the Metropolitan Handicap, In the Assembly the Ability Bill passed through committee. Under it every man whose income is below £IOO receives a £lO exemption for each child, otherwise every male adult breadwinner contributes something to the revenue. MELBOURNE, September 15. In the House of Representatives to-day Mr J. C. Watson, Leader of the Opposition, gave notice to move next Tuesday: That the ReidTurner Administration does not possess the confidence of the House.” The Premier (Mr Reid) then moved the adjournment of the House till Tuesday. This was carried. Prior to the' adjournment Mr IsaacTsaacs gave notice that he would’move next Thursday a resolution favouring the appointment of a Royal Commission to enquire into the injurious effects of the tariff in certain industries. The Seriate has adjourned till the 28th.
