Awahou 19— Motuiti 5. Huia xi—Kiwi o. Favoured with fine weather on Saturday afternoon a large number of spectators wended their way out to the racecourse to witness the continuation of the Cup matches—Awahou v. Motuiti, and Kiwi v. Huia. The play at times was fast and exciting, the passing rushes of the Huias being at times really brilliant, and only the sound defensive play of the Kiwi backs prevented a bigger score being put up against them. Motuiti, who had up to Saturday failed to score a single point in any of their previous matches, crossed Awahou’s line, and their goal kicker proved himself equal to the occasion by placing a splendid goal from a very difficult angle. The rounds for the Mayor’s Cup are almost completed, and should they vanquish Awahou on Saturday next they become the possessors of the first Rugby Cup ever competed for in Foxton. The Huias having withdrawn from the contest have left Motuiti no other option but to withdraw also. CAMPBELL STREET SCHOOL v. FOXTON SCHOOL. This match was played before the Cup matches on Saturday, the Palmerston boys arriving by the 1.30 train. Owing to the limited time at their disposal very short spells were played—the first being only 15 minutes and the second of 18 minutes. The match was a very fair exhibition of football, and the masters are to be congratulated on the manner in which the boys played. The game ended in a draw, neither side scoring. Mr E. Smith had charge of the whistle. The friendly games between the Old Boys and Wanderers will be continued ou Wednesday. On the Wednesday following the Shannon team play the Old Boys.
