A Sham Doctor.

FINED £25 AND COSTS

Barron Gardner was charged at the Huntcrville Magistrate’s Golkt on Thursday before Mr A. I). Thomson, SM m With representing himself as a doctor, he not being a medical man.

Defendant did not appear. Alexander McLean, farmer, of Silverhnpe, deposed that on July 21st, accused guaranteed to cure him of a lung complaint for two guineas Witness addressed him as “ Doctor,” and accused never corrected him. Gave accused a Cheque for the money, and would nob have cortsillted him had ho not thought ho was a doctor. Mrs McLean said a young man delivered a card at the house with the words “ Barron Gardner, Medical Expert, M.8.5.A.” upon it. She never called him doctor, because she did not think he Was One. Mrs Annie Guff gave evident that the card produced had been left at her residence, and defendant came next day. She informed him that she toas not in good health, and defendant said he would care her in ten weeks He described himself as a specialist of the eyes, ears and nose. Herbert Thomson gave evidence that the advertisement which appeared in the “ Hunterville Express ” had been handed in by defendant. His Worship said although the defendant acted guardedly in interviews with patients, he thought the words on the card and advertisement brought him within the section. The M.B. on the card would lead persons to believe that defendant was a duly qualified medical man. This being the second offence, defendant would be fined £25 and costs.
