Foxton Borough Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last night at 7.30 o’clock. Present—His Worship the Mayor and Crs Symons, Coley, Gower, Speirs, Spelman, Stiles, Austin and Baker. The minutes were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence was read. A petition, signed by Mrs E Bar- , ber and several other residents was read asking for a lamp to be placed at the corner of the Lady’s Mile, Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Austin, That the petition of the ratepayers in the Lady’s Mile for a lamp be granted. After some discussion, the motion was declared carried on the casting vote of the Mayor, Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried.

•Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the tender of R. Noonan be accepted for painting the (Pound board. Carried. I Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the reports as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Coley, seconded by Cr Gower, pro forma, That the road from end of Ferry house to Austin Bros.’ mill be metalled if road is cleared of refuse to satisfaction of Public Works Committee, Carried. The Council went into Committee to consider a request from the librarian to have some repairs carried out to the dwelling occupied by him. I (Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the Library Committee inspect that part of building occupied by Mr Ball, and report upon condition of Such by next monthly meeting. Carried. The water supply question was also discussed in committee, and it Was eventually proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Baker, That the Town Clerk write to Mr Rounthwaite thanking him for his reply to the town clerk’s letter, but at the same time this Council feels that a water scheme for Foxton as suggssted is a little premature. On the motion being put it was carried, Crs Gower, Coley, Baker, Speirs, Spelraan and Austin voting for the resolution, and those against being the Mayor, Crs Stiles and Symons. The ordinary business was then resumed. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Gower, That the town clerk be Instructed to write to the member lor this district, Mr J. Vile, in reference to the verandah for the railway station, State school and Maori cemetery. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, pro forma, That the Council endeavour as soon as funds will allow, consider the obtaining of a water supply for Main-street and adjoining streets, with the object of placing a scheme before the ratepayers to vote upon. Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Austin, That the remarks made by the Mayor when he said gentlemanly conduct of one of the .■«» ;cillors was disrespectful to the as they were unwarranted by the circumstanses. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That tenders be called for alterations at Victoria Park cycle track as per plans and specifi- ( cations. Carried. ,
