Attack on a Young Woman at Napier.

SUPPOSED LUNATIC. A peculiar occurrence took place on Saturday morning in Clive Square. A young man named ‘William Edmund Phillips attacked a young woman with a bar of iron, knocking her down and striking her with it While on the ground. The young Woman's cries attracted the attention ot some cyclists, who rescued her. It -was iound that although badly bruised the young woman bad no bones’ broken as was at first feared. The man Phillips was subsequently brought before the Magistrate’s Court and remanded for medical examination, it being believed be is not of sound . mind. He asserts the young woman was imitating his style of xifallrilhg find this annoyed him, and he considered this a sufficient cause for the attack.
