YESTERDAY’S FOOTBALL MATCH.

fO TttK EtUTon OE THE KANAWA'!!! UERAIiD. Sir,—l don’t think that I am alone in nly Opinion of the disgraceful conduct Ort the part oi several Foxtonites in bo-hooing and deriding the local I club almost trom the start to the finish of the match. Even if their sympathies were with Poroutawhao there was not any reason why they kept up a hostile attitude to the Foxton Club, and it was Still more disgraceful when from trustworthy information one of the principal ringleaders had refused to contribute the modest fee (6d) asked at the gate to meet the expenses of entertaining the visitors. That Foxton was well beaten was bad enough, but these Job comforters did not in any way help to lighten the defeat. From what I have learnt these offenders chiefly consisted of individuals who had not been picked to represent Foxton, and in this way showed their kindly spirit. What sort of men are these ? No wonder that out-door sport of any kind does not flourish in Foxton when so many croakers exist. I am not surprised to hear that several of the local team have made up their mind to retire so long as these things continue, and it was a great pity that one of our local constables was not on the ground. His presence would have deterred some of the unseemly conduct indulged in by these hoodlums- — I am, &c-, Onlooker. Foxton, 30th June, 1904.
