Foxton Literary and Debating Society.

LECTURE BY MR J. WILSON

Mr J. Wilson, of Wellington, will deliver a lecture on “ Socialism ” in the Good Templar’s Hall on Friday next, the 24th June, commencing at 7.30 p.m., under the auspices of the Foxton Literary and Debating Society. For further particulars see advertisement. This is the second occasion on which the Society has provided an entertainment of this kind. The first it will be remembered was given by Mr A. A. Brown, some little time back, his subject being “ Across the American Continent ” ; and the event passed off so well that the Society determined to obtain the services of another lecturer as soon as the opportunity presented itself. As a result ot their efforts, Mr Wilson has consented to give an address on the interesting and momentous question of “ Socialism.” Mr Wilson is renowned for his highclass oratory, and for the comprehensive grasp he has of his subject, and the newspapers speak very highly of his lectures. has been making giant strides during the last 20 years, and in view of the advent of a Labour Ministry in Australia, who are known to possess pronounced socialistic tendencies, it is of the utmost importance that everyone should know .something at least concerning a question attended with such weighty issues.

In consideration of this fact, and also that the Society is one of the most deserving institutions in our town, we trust that a large number will roll up to hear Mr Wilson on Friday evening next. A special appeal is made to ladies to attend. The admission is the modest sum of is. The Mayor, Mr Simpson, will preside. At the conclusion of the address questions may be asked by those desirous of doing so. The weekly meeting of the Society, which was to have been held on Wednesday, has in consequence of the lecture, been adjourned to the Wednesday following.
