Foxton Literary and Debating Society.

This Society met as usual at Mr Stewart’s residence last Wednesday ■evening, Mr Barnard being in the chair. A number of puc.as were delivered by the members, selections being given from Tennyson, Longfellow, Lowell, Macaulay, and others. The “ Death of Arthur ” (Tennyson) as read by one of the members, was perhaps the most striking one. The following gentlemen were present:— Messrs Hutchison, Moore, Jenks, Wanldyn, Barnard, and some others whose names have not reached ns. Next Wednesday evening, the 22nd instant, will be spent in discussing the Liquor question, and a full attendance of the Society is requested. The debate will be of a triangular nature, the three sides advocated being, No-license, Reduction and State Control.
