Manawatu Dairy Show and Fanciers Poultry Exhibition.
The Winter Dairy Show and Poultry Exhibition to be held next week at Palmerston North has developed and expanded to a remarkable extent considering that this is the second one to be held by the Manawatu & West Coast A. &P. Association. The Show has three comprehensive divisions First, the exhibiting of all kinds of modern machinery directly connected with the dairy machinery, with every facility afforded to place the same in motion, from a refrigerator machine to a steam turbine tester; to mention that 184 ft of shafting, and 60-horse power is required, a slight ideh, of the comprehensiveness of this feature may be gathered. Besides this there will be all kinds of gas, gasoline and oil engines, running valuable auxiliaries to the up to date farmer. The next section is the Poultry, Pigeon and Canary division, which has an entry of some 950, and judging by the support given by leading fanciers from Auckland to Wellington and the South Island, who are the largest exhibitors, this division is certainly “ The Fanciers' Show.” Attached to this will be an excellent array of those requisites incidental to poultry keeping, and including an instructive insight to plucking, dressing and other things incidental to the successful raising of poultry. Agricultural and dairy produce is prominently catered for, and an entry of 100 from dairy factories, and nearly 400 in general products, amply proves. The widespread interest in the farmers’ classes may be guaged by entries coming from as far abroad as Manaia, Hastings and Masterton. Tbe foregoing is a brief epitome of the leading features of the Show, but that is not all; there are the Conferences of the many Dairy Associations, reading of valuable papers, pertaining to the dairy business at which farmers are strongly invited to attend. It should be mentioned that very large buildings have been provided, that the whole is held under cover on the Show ground, and may be attended without fear of the exigencies of the weather. The official opening will be on Tuesday, the 21sf. inst., by tbe Hon. Minister for Agriculture.
