Brass Band for Foxton.
A meeting of old bandsmen and others interested in the re-organisation of the Foxton Brass Band was held at the “ Centre of Commerce ” buildings last night at 8 o’clock (kindly lent by Mr E, Osborne for the occasion.) There was a very good attendance, and Mr T. Betty occupied the chair. After the chairman bad explained the object of the meeting, it was decided to form a band to be called “The Foxton Brass Band.” The question of properties, consisting of uniforms, music, instruments and money, belonging to the. old band was gone into fully, and it was unanimously decided that the same should be handed over to the newly-iormed band. Proposed by (he chairman, seconded by Mr B. Wilson, That Mr J. H. McKennie be appointed bandmaster. Carried. The question of having honorary members was left over for a future meeting. The election of officers resulted as follows;—Committee: MessrsT. Betty, B. Wilson, C. Collins, C, Rand and J. Newth ; band-sergeant, Mr T. Betty; corporal, MrJ. Newth ; lance-corporal, Mr B, Wilson; secretary, Mr C. Collins; treasurer, Mr T. Betty ; libra* rian and custodian, Mr J. Gillespie. It was decided that the initiation fee for new members would be decided at a future meeting. Proposed by Mr Newth, seconded by Mr B. Dunn, That the nights of practice be Monday and Fridays at 7.30 o’clock. Carried. Resolved also that the first meeting of the band for (he purpose of selecting music, etc., take place on Friday evening next. Proposed by Mr McKennie, seconded by Mr Betty, That a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr J. Symons MUdndly offer of use of Public Hall flßpractices. Carried. ■ The following names were then handed in as members:—Messrs, J. H. McKennie, T. Betty, J. Newth, J. Walls, F.. Hadfield, F. Collins, C. Collins, C. Rand, W. Symons, B. Wilson, J. Speirs and B. Dunn. New members were elected as follows:—Messrs J. Jillett, W. Currie, J. Gillespie, W. Hooker, W. E. Edwards, J. Fyf, Alex, Speirs, junr., and R. Smith.. The newly-elected bandmaster gave the members some good advice, after which votes of thanks were carried to Mr Osborne for use of meeting room and to the chair, and a successful meeting concluded.
