THE JAPANESE ADVANCE ON LIAOYANG.
The Japanese have advanced to the south of Liaoyang, They were delayed two days while awaking their heavy artillery, which owing to the terrible state of the roads, retarded the army. The Japanese, on the 16th, after serious fighting, drove a battalion of Rushans, with eight guns, off a line of hills at Chakato to Chulisan, near Kinchau. The Russians retreated southwards.
