THE WAR.

JAPS OFF VLADIVOSTOCK. Recent reports as to the presence of Cossacks between Gensan and Pukcheng for the purpose of creating a diversion on the Japanese right are discredited. They never were officially confirmed. The unprotected Japanese colony of Gensan was alarmed at the arrival of three cruisers and two torpedo craft belonging to the Vladivostock squadron which sank the 371-ton steamer Goyomaru. The cruise is attributed to the idea of intercepting unprotected transports. A message received at St. Petersburg reports that the Japanese warships are off Vladivostock. General Kuropatkin reports that two Japanese companies of infantry and some cavalry crossed the Yalu near Siamopussikhe, above Wiju. LOSS OF SPECIE. It is reported in St. Petersburg that a million and a quarter of specie was lost in the Petropavlovsk. The Russian battleship Borodino, built in St. Petersburg, draws 26 feet, while the canal leading to Cronstadt is 22 feet deep. Eight inches of armour is being removed to enable her to make the passage of the canal. Admiral Skrydloff, when starting for the Bast, told the Czar that his task was almost impossible, but he would do his utmost.
