Shot Dead in the Street.
- - -- TRAGIC OUTCOME OP A FEU-IV*-A sensational tragedy has occurred at Leichhardt, an important suburb three miles west of Sydney. A f nd, involving legal proceedings, has existed for a considerable time between Alfred Russell, a plumber, and Steward, a local builder and an alderman of the borough, over a bruise Steward was building for Russell. Russell awaited Steward’s return from the city, and, wa'king to within a few paces, shot him dead through the head in the street, in the presence of several passers-by. He then quietly walked away. When Russell wts arrested a large steel plate was found across bis breast. He explained that he had taken this precaution because he feared Steward might shoot him. In consequence of Russell’s threats Steward was always armed. His dead hand grasped a fully-loaded revolver, partly withdrawn from his pocket.
