SANDON L. T. CLUB v. FOXTON L. T. CLUB. The long-talked-of match between the Sandon and Foxton Lawn Tennis Clubs came off on the Foxton court on, Saturday and proved very enjoyable. The Sandon representatives arrived punctually at n a.m. by special tram and were welcomed at the railway station by the officers of the local team. The weather was beautifully fine, the courts (asphalt) in good order, and the light all that could be desired ; whilst the games, one and all, were played with great keenness on both sides, but with the utmost good humour and in the most kindly spirit. The visitors were entertained at Whyte’s Hotel, the lunch provided being quite up to Mrs Haywood’s high water mark of excellence; and later on afternoon tea was given to all and sundry by the ladies of the local Club. The day’s play resulted in a meritorious win for the visitors by 8 games to 7, the visitors winning by points as well, scoring 544 to the local 500.
