Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held Jast night at 7.30 o’clock. Present —His Worship the Mayor and Crs Overend, G. Coley, Gower, J, Symons, Speltnan, Baker and G. Stiles. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence inward and outward was read, also the usual monthly reports and accounts, Mr Shapleski waited on the Council in regard to his metalling contract, and as a result of the interview it was proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That this Council meet the contractors with overseer on No. 1 Line on Wednesday, 13th, at 2 o’clock to inspect the road. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the Council visit the cemetery on Wednesday next, April 13th, at 2.30 p.m. with the object of marking pine trees for the purpose of removing them at an early date to make room tor suitable evergreens. Carried. Proposed bv Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, That the building in the cemetery be painted and the root washed, painted or sprayed with strong lime and salt wash so as to remove the moss. Carried, Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded Cr Coley, That Mrs Bradcock be granted permission to erect abridge with hand-rail over drain at Johnstonstreet. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Coley,'That the Mayor's action re upholding the Inspector of Nuisances’ suggestion to take Court action against Nightsoil Contractor for emptying cart into the river be approved. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the’accounts as read be passed for payment, and the reports be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles (pro forma), That tenders be called for the blinding with clay of all streets formed with river metal, tenders to be in by next meeting of the Council.
The motion on being put to the meeting was lost, the Mayor and all the Councillors voting against the resolution with the exception of Cr Baker. Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Overend, That the matter of carting the metal from the depot at the river be left in the hands of the Mayor and Cr Coley, with a view to getting a price from Mr Shapleski for doing this work. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Coley, That the clerk be granted his annual holiday as from the and of May, and that the next monthly meeting be held on the x6th May. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Stiles, That notice be sent to Mr A. Speirs asking him to put in a crossing opposite Mr Johnston’s stable. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Symons, That notice be sent to the owners of property fronting Awahou drain to fence the' drain off and prevent stock tresspassing, or the Council will fence it at their expense. Carried. The Council went into Committee to consider the claim of £250 for compensation for loss of frontage to property owned by Mrs Mary Symons by the closing of Gray-street, and the following resolution was carried: That Mrs Mary Symons’ claim for closing of Gray-street be held over until the claim of Mr G. Coley be before the Council. The Council then adjourned.
