N.Z. Butter at Home.
The Agricultural Department at; Wellington has received a report dated January 26, relative to New - Zealand butter at Home, from the | |few Zealand Government Produce
Commissioner in London, in the course of which he remarks : - “It is said on the market that the result of the loiy prices that have been accepted for New Zealand and Australian butters this season has been to induce traders in districts throughout the country who have not previously tried these butters to handle them. If so, the amounts lost by shipping on their own account will have to be written off as “ advertising expenses.” The result to be derived from sale in future years owing to this introduction and advertisement must be hopefully .counted on. It will be recollected that a few years ago the price of New Zealand lamb fell to a very low figure, and although at the time it was felt that the losses sustained by shippers were severe, I think it has been recognised since then that the introduction of that meat to many new customers throughout the country has been the main cause of the wide and general demand experienced since that time for New Zealand lamb. This season New Zealand butter has been giving entire satisfaction to those handling it. No reports of “ fishiness ” in New Zealand butter have been made, although with the butter coming from Australia the complaint seems to be frequent.
