Our New Governor.

WILLIAM LEE PLUNKET.

Our newly-appointed Governor ii the fifth Baron of his house, a Knight Commander of torian Order. He was born ohm^F

19th December, 1864, his father being the fourth Baron and his mother Anne Lee, oldest daughter of Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness, Bart., and, therefore, sister of Lords Ardilaun and Iveagh. Lord Plunket, on the 4th June, 1894, married Victoria Alexandrina, the youngest daughter of the first Marquess of Dufferin £ud Ava. She was the goddaughter of the Jate Queen Victoriß| and her brother was lil-Usd in action at the relief of Ladysmith.. The new Governor was an hon. attache at the Embassy at Rome from 1883 to 1892, then joined the Embassy at Constantinople. He retired from the diplomatic service in the year of his marriage, and since 1900-Jia* been private secretary to the Lieu-tenant-Governor of Ireland. Lord Plunket' was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Dublin, taking his B.A. at the latter institution. Lord and Lady Plunket have twb daughters (Hons. Helen and Eileen Plunket), and a five-year-old son and heir (Hon. Terence Conyngham Plunket.

Lord Plunket is expected to r arrive in the colony about the end of May.
