Climbing Mount Egmont.
THRILLING EXPERIENCE BY YOUNG LADY. Rome very plucky attempts are made by members of the fair sex to scale Egmont, but one of the pluckiest, and, at the same time, the most thrilling was made by a young woman last week. Mie outpaced the party she was with, and overtook a number of gentlemen who had left Dawson’s Falls house some hours before. Climbing the stegp grade past Fantham’s Peak, one of the gentlemen slipped, and in his descent knocked over the young lady, who was a few yards behind. She whizzed down at a great pace, and those around were horrified at the sight, for it seemed that she must be dashed to pieces, but never losing her presence of mind for a moment, the girl steered for a party —her own—at the bottom, where she collided with one of them, and stopped her descent. Not injured by the fall, nor frightened either, she set to again, and. climbed the steep side, eventually gaining the top. She returned safely and in the evening danced the greater part at the house! The young lady in question is only a mere handfu lin proportions, but all are agreed that no one in Taranaki has a bigger heart than she.—Waimate Witness.
