Railway Accident In Palmerston.

MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.

A miraculous escape from a fatal

. accident occurred in the Square shortly after nine o’clock yesterday morning, a lady named Mrs Strickland, a recent arrival from London, being knocked down by a ballast train at the crossing opposite the Post Office. The lady, apparently deeply pre-occupied, walked slowly on to the line, despite the continuous whistling of the engine-driver. She was struck by the upper portion of the engine on the left arm and fortunately thrown quite clear of the long line of loaded metal trucks attached to the engine. Horrified onlookers quickly rushed to the spot, and were relieved beyond expression to find that Mrs Strickland, though dazed and suffering from shock, was comparatively uninjured. Blood was staining her dress and gloves, and investigation showed she had sustained a clean cut on the left arm, fully four inches long and two aapide. Mrs Strickland bore her painful experience with great fortitude, resolutely refusing to have a cab sent for as soon as she found she was practically unhurt. She remarked that she was on her way to Dr Stowe’s at the time of the accident, and could easily continue her journey. First aid services were gendered by Constable De Lore®,
