Wellington Wool and Skin Sales.
Messrs Levin & Co. report ;—The fourth sale of the present season was held to-day at the Art Gallery, the various brokers offering 1100 bales. As is usual at this time of the year the offerings were comprised largely of late shorn wools and scouring lots and lambs wool. The latter was in good demand, and any bright lots free from seed sold at good prices. For fleece wool prices were obtained on a par with January rates. We quote —
Wool Medium crossbred and Romneys, to 7d ; coarse crossbred and Lincolns, 6Jd to 6fd ; logstained and inferior, s£d to 6d; pieces and bellies, 8d to 4d ; locks, Id to 2£d ; lambs, bright and clean, 6£d to 7d ; slightly seedy, 5d to s£d. After the wool sale the fortnightly akin and tallow sale was held, we offering 1600 skins and a quantity of hides and tallow. Prices showed no change on the last sale. We quote— Skins—Merinos, 6£d to 7d ; halfbreds, 6d to 6Jd; tine crossbreds, ssd to 6d; coarse crossbreds, 5d to 5Jd ; dead, 3£d to 4d. Hides—Ox hides, 17s 6d to 23s ; cow hides, ISs-to 16s 6d. Tallow—Station fat, 17s to 19s ; rough fat, 13s to 15s. Wellington, 19th Feb., 1904.
