In Bankruptcy.
A meeting of the creditors of Edmund J. B. Osborne, draper, of Foxton, a bankrupt, was held yesterday at the Official Assignee’s office, Wellington. Mr G. J. Scott, Deputy Assignee at Palmerston, presided. The statement of liabilities and assets have already been published in these columns. The Official Assignee said the causes of failure were very evident: Osborne had been in the habit of buying job lines on a large scale and selling by auction at ruinous prices. The turn-over had been too small to pay expenses. It was decided to call tenders for the stock, and a collector of the book debts was appointed. The case of alleged preferred payment having been made to two warehouse firms will be laid before a legal adviser for an opinion as to whether a refund can bo claimed by the creditors.
