Montgomery’s Entertainers.
An appreciative audience witnessed the appearance of the above last night at the Public Hal 1, as the invariable excellence of all Mr Montgomery’s companies is well known throughout the colony. The front portion of the house was filled to its utmost capacity, and the back portion was also comfortably seated. The performance opened with biograph pictures, and first-class they were, due undoubtedly to the expert operating of the machine by Mr Tom Valentine. Tumultuous applause expressed the audience’s delight at some of the films shown, many being new, and their clearness making them moat enjoyable. As a comic singer, Bob Hall again won favor with his humourous sketches, and decisive encores “four deep” was his portion on every appearance. His disregard for vulgar songs and patter makes his items all the more appreciable, and in a laughable song where he impersonates Oliver Cromwell in true comic war guise, he was immense. Miss Eva Brady, the possessor of a sweet soprano voice of power and promise, sang " Madeline ” to the complete satisfaction of the audience, and her items later oa the progromme were also highly appreciated. Mr Dudley Trent met with a hearty reception for his ballad, singing “ Davy Jones ” which suited his baritone voice admirably. Unfortunately Mr Montgomery only contributed two picture songs, and, needless to say, the audience were highly pleased with them. The accompaniments were shared by Miss Brady and Mr L. Redwood. The whole entertainment was of the highest order, and a great treat is in store for those who attend tonight, when, the company again appear.
