Foxton School Committee.
A special meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held in the Borough Council chambers on Wednesday evening last. Present—Messrs F. E. Jenks, G. Coley, H. S. Baker, R. T. Betty, H. Austin, H. Bradcock and the Rev. H. F. Wilson. The headmaster was in attendance. Apologies for absence were received from the chairman (Mr A. D, Clemett), and Mr C. L, Barnard,
Mr Wilson was voted to the chair. Applications fof tno head mistress in the school were coosidereu. In accordance with its Custom, the Education Board had not sent down to the committee all the applications received. Five applications were sent to the committee; with, their, testimonials and other information in regular form. After a careful study and comparison of the cases submitted it was decided, on the motion ot the chairman and Mr Jenks, to select the teacher most highly recommended by the Board, the successful lady is Miss Aimee McDonough, at present teaching in the Feilding school A letter was received from the chairman of the Education Board in answer to the committee’s protest at the withdrawal of, the Foxton building grant. The Board recognised the serious need for more accommodation in the school, more especially during the warm months; but it was impossible at present to build, as the Government had reduced the Board’s building grant by over jftooo. The Board has made application for a special grant to enable the necessary work to be done. The secretary was directed to ask that the committee be promptly informed of the result of the Board’s application The headmaster brought before the committee several small matters of detail in the working of the school and, after these had been dealt with, the meeting adjourned.
It may be of interest to parents in the town to know that the new head mistress, Miss McDonough, is ranked Ei in the Education Board’s registers, and has had 14 years’ experience as a teacher. This experience has been gained in four schools noted for their excellence, viz., Wanganui Girls Infants, St. John’s Infants, Hawera and Feilding.
