Railway Travelling in Russia.

According to the Odessa correspondent of the Standard, railway travelling in Russia would seem to possess a charm of its own forpeople who like excitement and do not mind a little risk. As a rule, he says, the rails are laid without either chairs or fishplates, and . thus they are little more than nailed down to the sleepers, a system which introduces a pleasant element of uncertainty into every train journey. In the course of last year 1521 trains ran off the line, while 1212 ran into others coming in the opposite direction, and in addition there were 7157 miscellaneous accidents. As there are said to be about 29,000 miles of railway in European Russia, it follows that there was a collision for every 25 miles, a derailment for every 20, and an accident of some sort for every three miles of permanent way, resulting in 1629 deaths and 7908 injuries. Newspaper coupon insurance would apparently not be a profitable kind of advertisement in the dominions of the Czar.
