The monthly mooting was hold on Wednesday,, Present—Crs J. G. Wilson (Chairman), P. Robinson Thos. Clark, H. Hammond, Masters, H. Claris, G, KondaU;- - The inward correspondence" was dealt with as follows: — Prom Commissioner of Crown Lands, stating that Council’s contractor had taken gravel from bank of Oroua.—None taken. Prom Treasury, stating that £IOOO was available on loan for construction of Wither’s ■ Tompkins’ and Jones’roads; £565 on loan for construction of Kakariki and Gust lines; £3OO on Pukipdrf road loan; and £IOOO on Taikorea-Sollow’s, and Milner’s road loan. Prom Kairanga County Council, stating that work now being carried out at Awahuri bridge was part of original scheme of protective works. Prom Gordon and Son, asking whether Council would takeover Kawa Kawa road on the work being completed as specified by the Council.—Left to Chairman. From'Commissioner of Crown Lands, stating that interest of J. Ellery in section 65, block XV, Rangitoto, had been cancelled. Prom P. Robinson, Himitangi, stating that he did not think it would be right to lease Taikorea road.—Not to be leased. From Hugh M. White, calling attention to bad state of unmetalled portion of Rongotea-Awahuri road. —Overseer to report. From secretary General Post office, enclosing letters from C, F. Johnston, coach proprietor, who complained that ferryman at Shannon had wilfully delayed him. He claimed, as mail carrier, he should have precedence of other vehicles even if such vehicles arrive at ferry f| ra Mr-Johhbtoh and the ferryman, Mr Piggott, attended and each gave his view of the case. The Council did not consider the mail coach could claim precedence of a vehicle that had reached the ferry before it, and was of opinion nothing appeared to have occurred that would justify it in finding fault with the manner the ferryman had carried out his duties, and it was expressly stated by the chairman that no complaint had hitherto been found with Mr Piggotfc. And in this case there . appeared to be nothing more than what a little mutual forbearance would smooth over. Frem Mr Wrigley, tendering his resignation as manager of tramway, this step having been forced, T jipon him owing to illness of his-wtfe.— It was decided to give the clerk, Mr Russell, an assistant and put him in charge of the tramway. , It was decided to appoint Miss Richardson at a salary of £36 a year; also to employ a guard at 8s per day. Prom Department of Roads, stating that estimated cost of protective works to Bulls was £6OO, and asking - for contribution of £200.—-Respon-sibility denied for any part of cost. From Mr Job Vile, stating that gate of tram line, next hie property, was not kept closed. —Reared to Mr Wrigley. , *L_. From A. J. Arnold aM Zajonskowski Bros., asking if any old rails available. The chairman said it was intended to redew one mile of the tram line. In this connection the advisability of laying down temporary lines down Milner, Jones and Taikojea roacfs was discussed, in order to metal them, but no decision was come to.
Prom John McDoneli, asking that bridge over Mangaone be erected as soon as possible.—To be erected as soon as money is available. The Treasurer reported the general account —Debit, £2462 8s 9d; loan credit, £lB 11s lid. Biding accounts— Sandon, debit, £52 12a 9(1; Mt. Stewart, credit, £96 16s Id; Waitohi, credit, £lßl 7s 2d; Bongotea, credit, £845 Is sd; Carnarvon, credit, £22 6s ; Kawa Kawa, £4B 14a 6d; Awahou, credit, £l9l Os 10s.
The Sanitary Inspector reported the number of cases of infectious disease had decreased from eleven to two of scarlet fever.
The Tramway Manager reported receipts last month to have been £176 and expenditure, not including cost of new sleepers, had been £l7B 2s sd.
It was resolved to appoint Harry Holtham poundkeeper at Eongotea, The tender of S. George for erection of shed at Eongotea station was accepted at £56 IBs; and the tender of Bray and Shapleski for cutting William’s Hill, at £B6 16s, was accepted. It was decided to call the attention of the Sanitary Inspector to Certain persons draining their premises into road drains.
