The Balkan States.
FOREIGN WARSHIPS IN TURKISH WATERS.
It is reported in Paris that M. Deloasse, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has ordered two warships to reinforce the squadron in Turkish waters, and that the other Powers are likely to follow France’s example except Germany, A sleeping-car attendant on the Kuleli Burgas train has been arrested on a charge of causing an explosion. He quitted the train at Philippopolis.
CHRISTIANS IN TERROR OF MASSACRE.
A Consular despatch which has been received from Salonica states the insurrection in the Monastir district has been practically stamped out, with sanguinary ruthlessness. The aim of the Turks is apparently to exterminate, besides Bulgarians and Macedonians, all Christians, of whatever nationality. The despatch has caused a profound impression in Constantinople and in Bulgaria. Macedonian and Bulgarian residents are in 1 terror of massacre.
Many Europeans fear the concentration of Asiatic reinforcements in Macedonia and the vilayet of Adrianople at the end of the month, so as to facilitate hostilities through the merest incident that may occur on the frontier.
The Macedonian Committee in Bulgaria is doing its utmost to force war. It is raising funds, and pressing intimidation bands across the frontier. The Koumanian Government has strengthened its military posts in the Bulgarian posts.
