The Port.
Again we have to record the grounding of a steamer in Duncan’s bend. The s.s, Himitangi' on her last trip to this port grounded at the same spot as the s.s Moa. It is obvious if these shoals are not soon removed or proper precautions taken to prevent their beihg formed, the shiping of the port, as mentioned in a previous issue, must'necessarily be seriously impaired. The situation is now becoming so serious as to warrant the Mayor calling a public meeting to consider the advisability of passing a resolution with regard to the matter, and having it at once forwarded to the Minister of Marine.
Unless something is done very soon to bring about a removal of these shoals and to prevent their formation in future, we may expect to find the wharf entirely cut off from the shipping. We are quite certain that if the matter were brought under the notice of the Minister of Marine steps would immediately be taken to remedy this serious state of affairs, and we hope to see prompt measures taken to prevent the port from becoming injured.
