A Sad Fatality.

FACTORY MANAGER KILLED

A shocking accident, which ended fatally, occurred at the Hawera Bacon Factory yesterday. The manager, Mr Goodson, a son of Mr C. Goodson, of Auckland, was about to show visitors the working of a patent lift, designed by himself, and mounted the shaft for the purpose of fixing the belting. The motive power was on at the time, and a set screw, in its revolution, caught the leg of Mr Goodaon’s trousers, and carried him round at the rate of 140 revolutions to the minute. When the turbine stopped and the body was cut down it was found that Goodson’s left arm was broken and his left leg smashed to a pulp. The latter was amputated, but Goodson died from the shock.
